The world’s first fan-owned entertainment company has launched.
Called Legion M, its co-founders claim that instead of contributing towards a single project, as is possible with other crowdfunding initiatives, this offers fans the first-ever opportunity to invest in and have a voice in the creation of new films, TV shows and other entertainment projects.
The model’s mission statement is simple: “Empower creators to push the boundaries and empower fans to be a part of the content they love.” However, in an increasingly crowded content marketplace, will it be able to cut through?
Limited to one million fan financiers, the project is the brainchild of Paul Scanlan and Jeff Annison – the Emmy winning technologists who previously co-foundedMobiTV. They are also backed by other industry luminaries such as Seth Green, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (the award-winning studio behind Robot Chicken) and Gaston Dominguez-Letelier (the founder and CEO of Meltdown Entertainment and Animal Repair Shop, the new content studio from the minds behind 42 Entertainment).
